I can feel her now; she’s not breathing, it’s just a gasp;
She seems asleep;
I see her lying there, very peaceful.
She searches for me with her eyes
and wants to remove her veil,
to come down from heaven with me,
and renounce the kisses.
Is it my fault,
or perhaps it’s hers?
Ah, perhaps it’s your fault;
I haven’t figured out why
and I’m moved, thinking about it.
What is life? All or nothing,
and there’s silence as the answer.
Now her hands seek me;
and, wide open, she embraces me.
Then, she lets go, slowly;
now they’re closed
and very slowly she searches for me;
Also slowly, she embraces me.
Ah, perhaps it’s my fault;
although, perhaps, it’s her fault;
And here I remain trembling,
because they are tolling for mourning,
and my fate is a desert.
Your ears hear nothing,
without hearing that I am with you…
He has already fallen asleep in silence,
without seeing that I remain like this,
waiting for that embrace!
The fault is mine,
that the fault is only mine,
even though it could be yours!
