COME ON, LET’S GO, OK, GO!
The quick, submissive, automatic response, without the option of reply, to the indisputable demand, or categorical imperative, is reappearing, unthinkably, in societies where servility seemed to have been overcome; the insidious power intends to establish it as an «ethical» norm of obligatory compliance.
The «yes bwana» is not a cliché, but an automatic reaction of vassalage; the «I order and command» cancels the postponement to analyze the foundation and the possible revocation, allegation, limitation or, also, the refusal. This way of «lowering» remains in force, with «ethical» consistency, in malleable or superstitious societies («banana republics») where the dogmatic has more room than the pragmatic and therefore, more exposed to the directed guidance of thought. Thus, in minds with little intellectual fervor, the “doctrine” of submission is instilled in a continuous and subliminal manner: the “immediately” of the paradigmatic superior being and almost always, of “exalted” condition. (“I sign so-and-so, in blank; what he asks me for “goes to mass”)
Kant is convinced that everything that forces, without the option of reply, crosses the red line of ethics. Therefore, he ends up framing within his space only that which can be debated, appealed and subject to conditions: “Help others, if you want to have friends.” “Think before signing.” “I do not comply with good will; you explain it to me, I value it and decide.” The unappealable would be disconnected, not only from ethics, but also from aesthetics. In my opinion, the greatest force to restore ethics, where it does not exist, would be nothing more and nothing less than “educating, educating, educating and educating” to remove from inertia the capacity to discern and favor the dismantling of myths, superstitions, rites, magic, occultism, power, omertà, fear, fanaticism, political extortions. Without a doubt, education would be the most powerful weapon to achieve social leveling and the argumentative, consensual, irrevocable and universal disposition to settle strategies in a context of political asepsis, where educational plans are conceived to illuminate the mind and not to cleanse it.
