CELL PHONES TOO, AS IF BALANCE-BALANCE TIME WERE NOT ENOUGH
The hectic pace of social functioning poses a serious threat to fostering the mother-child bond, which is the oldest and most essential principle for healthy physical and mental development in human beings. Overwhelming social demands can cause childcare to become incorporated into the normal routine, becoming considered just another thing to attend to, often assuming and looking askance that «the child is fine.» The situation becomes particularly alarming when poverty, crime, and/or drug addiction poison the environment in which children develop. Reproduction among adolescents, too young to fully grasp the meaning, value, and needs of a young child, is also on the rise.
It is up to the pediatrician to reclaim the tradition of caring for young children, and it is up to the administration to facilitate support programs to provide these children with consistent and reliable love and care.
In an advanced society, children should be the center of attention and never the «annoying» outliers of the group.
